Southern Fluffy Biscuits Pillowy Goodness From The Heart Of Dixie

Hey y'all! Hope you are doing well. Today I am sharing our light and fluffy southern biscuit recipe.

I made a video showing how I make it. You can find that here.

To a cup add 1/4 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of yeast, mix this together and set it aside.

Now mix up the dry ingredients. To a bowl add in 2 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder,  1/2 teaspoon of baking soda,  1 teaspoon of salt and  3 tablespoons sugar.

Then take a stick of butter and cut it up into smaller pieces. Cut it into the flour. To do this I mash the butter with my fingers into the flour. Do this until all the flour mixture is a crumbly texture.

Add in the yeast mixture.

As well as 1 cup of buttermilk. If you don't have this you can use 1 cup of milk and add in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar. Let this sit for about 5 minutes. We prefer this to real buttermilk.

Mix all of this together until it is well incorporated.

Cover and let this rise in a warm spot until it is doubled in size.

The dough will be very sticky. Scrape it out onto a well floured board. Flip the dough out and
knead it 4-6 times. Roll out the dough and cut them with a biscuit cutter. I have tried this without the extra flour and they were very flat and crumbly.

Place them on a greased pan and let them rise 30 minutes in a warm place.

Bake at 300 degrees F for 7 minutes turn and bake 7 more minutes. (Your
baking time may vary depending on the appliance you are using)

Serve and Enjoy! Note: These also freeze well!
