Homemade Elderberry Syrup That Actually Tastes Good | A Step By Step Tutorial

Hey y'all! Hope you are doing well. Today I am sharing how I make elderberry syrup. When I first started making this I used the standard recipe that is online with the strong flavors of cinnamon and ginger and clove. A lot of the spices are in pumpkin pie spice I have a recipe and labels for that here. No one in my family would take it. So I had to come up with a different recipe to get them to take it.

I made a video showing how I make it. You can find that here.

To start add 1 cup of water to the pan and turn it on to medium high.

I like to fortify mine with vitamins and herbs. I am adding 3 tablets of vitamin C, 3 tablets of zinc and 2 capsules of echinacea. I use a pill crusher to powder the tablets. Add whatever you like just make sure no one is allergic to anything and you don't over do it.  Now add that to the pot of water.

Next add 1/2 cup of dried elderberries or 1 cup of fresh.

Then add 1/2 cup of strawberries.

Now add 1 cup of wild blueberries.

Then add 2 cups of sugar.

Mix all the ingredients together and bring to a good rolling boil. Stir it frequently so nothing burns.

Once it is boiling good I mash everything with a potato masher. This extracts even more goodness from all the berries. After this you may need to turn it down so it doesn't get out of control. Let this simmer for 20 minutes or so stirring frequently so nothing burns.

Shut the heat off and let it sit for about 10 minutes to cool down. We don't want the jar to break and lose all of this goodness. Also don't let it sit to much longer than this as it thickens as it cools.

Now get a jar, funnel and a sieve. Pour the mixture through the sieve.

Look at how beautiful of a color the syrup is.

Take a tablespoon daily or use this however you would any syrup. On pancakes or waffles or whatever you like.
Add your lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.

Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients
• 1 cup water
• Any vitamins and other herbs you want just don't over do it
• 1/2 cup dried elderberries or 1 cup fresh
• 2 cups sugar
• 1/2 cup strawberries
• 1 cup wild blueberries

Add all ingredients to a pan on medium high and cook until it comes to a
rolling boil. Stirring frequently so nothing burns. Once it is boiling mash
the berries with a potato masher to extract more goodness out of the
berries. You may need to turn it down now as well but keep the mixture at
a simmer for around 20 minutes. Stirring frequently. Turn off the heat and
let it sit for about 10 minutes to cool some. After 10 minutes get a jar with
a funnel and sieve and pour the mixture into the jar. Do not wait too much
longer than that as the mixture thickens as it cools. Add your lid and store
it in the refrigerator for a few months. Use as you would with any syrup or
take a tablespoon daily and some people recommend 1 tablespoon every
few hours if you are feeling sick. Use it however you feel comfortable.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do.
